spyware - software that is installed in a computer without the user's knowledge and transmits information about the user's computer activities over the internet.

Often these people download more than they realize. A good anti spyware program will detect what you are about to download and advise you NOT to download the program and in some cases even block your computer from visiting a spyware site.

Keep your anti spyware updated and current. Also if you are looking for shareware(free software)make sure it's really free. Some freeware programs give you just a sample version of the paid version. There are many sites that offer free products and are spyware free.
